"R' Eliezer said: On Yom Tov one either eats and drinks or sits and studies. R' Yehoshua said: Split it – half for eating and drinking, half for the study hall.
"R' Yochanan said: Both learn it from the same text: One passage says, 'A celebration for HaShem your Gd,' and one passage says, 'It shall be a celebration for you.' R' Eliezer said it should be for Gd or for you, and R' Yehoshua said to split it, half for HaShem and half for you.
"R' Elazar said: All agree that for Shavuot we require 'for you', because that is the day when the Torah was given."

Holidays: For Gd or for us?

"Rabbi Eliezer said: The only thing one does on Yom Tov is eat and drink or sit and learn.
"Rabbi Yehoshua said: Split it; take half for eating and drinking, and half for study.
"Rabbi Yochanan said: Both learned from the same text. One verse says, “A celebration for HaShem, your Gd,” and another verse says, “A celebration for you.” Rabbi Eliezer understood that to mean the day would be entirely for HaShem or entirely for you, and Rabbi Yehoshua understood it to mean we split it, half for HaShem and half for you."

True religious celebration
Hi,
"And when one eats and drinks he must also feed “the stranger, the orphan and the widow,” along with all other paupers and needy people. For one who closes his yard’s gates and eats and drinks with his childern and wife and does not feed the needy and people of bitter spirit, this is not joy of a mitzvah; it is joy of his belly.
"Regarding such people it says, “Their offerings are as bread of sadness; all who eat it will be contaminated, for their bread is for their lives.” Joy such as this is shame for them, as it is written, “I will scatter peresh upon your faces, the peresh of your holiday-offerings.”"
(Rambam, Mishneh Torah, Hilchot Yom Tov 6:18)

Creating honor and pleasure for Yom Tov
