Make sure your words are true

Hi,

"One is obligated to pay his debts and fulfill his words. Leviticus 19:36 requires "an honest hin [measurement]", and the Talmud (Bava Metzia 49a) comments that this means, "That your hen ('Yes') shall be honest, and your 'No' shall be honest.""

מצוה עליו לפרוע חובו ולאמת דבריו דכתיב "הין צדק" - "שיהא הן שלך צדק ולאו שלך צדק".

(Rashi to Talmud, Ketuvot 86a)

With all of your strength

Hi,

The Talmud states, "Rava said: Torah is a potion of life for those who go to the right with it, but a potion of death for those who go to the left with it."

Rashi explains: "'To the right' refers to those who involve themselves with it using all of their strength, to know its secrets, like one who performs a task with his right hand, his essential hand."

(Talmud, Shabbat 88b)

Woe

Hi,

"Rabbi Shimon Ben Pazi said: Woe is me from my created nature, Woe is me from my Creator!"

Rashi [12th century French commentator] explains: Woe is me from my Creator if I follow my natural inclinations, and woe is me from my natural inclinations if I listen to my Creator!

(Talmud, Berachot 61a)

Who builds the Third Temple? Part I

Hi,

"The future Temple, for which we long, will be revealed constructed and fully formed, and it will come from Heaven, as it is written, 'Gd, Your hands have formed the Temple.'"

Teaching our children, Part I

Hi,

"The sages required us to train our minors in mitzvot for which they are suited, so that they will be trained and accustomed to mitzvot."

The Torah is ours

Hi,

The Torah is ours, given to us to study and to apply. Therefore, rulings of Jewish law are determined through an established process of study and adjudication, and cannot be imposed by special intuition or even prophetic revelation:

"Permissive and prohibitive rulings are not for Elijah the Prophet to issue; as it is written (Devarim 30:12), 'The Torah is not in Heaven.'"

(Rashi to Shabbat 108a)

Have a great day,
Mordechai
