Yonah's conclusion

Hi,

The conclusion of Yonah, that appears in midrash rather than the text of the book:

"Yonah immediately fell on his face and said, “Master of the Universe! I know that I have sinned before You. Forgive my sin of fleeing to the sea, for I did not know the strength of Your power. Now I know.”"

(Midrash, Yalkut Shimoni 551)

    A strange midrash. Did Yonah really think that he could run away from Hashem? He reached the level of prophecy without knowing that Hashem is omnipotent and omnipresent??

    From the pesukim themselves, it sounds like he ran from prophecy ("from standing before Gd"), not from Gd.
