Hi,
"When a person depends on his own mind and thoughts, his spirit is darkened, without a straight path, for he is always in doubt."
(R' Isaac Abarbanel, Commentary to Chavakuk 2:4)

I dont understand Abarbanels pessimistic peirush since the second part of the passuk tells us צדיק באמונתו יחיהץ The tzaddik can rely on his faith to keep him on the true path.
ReplyDeleteDavid-
ReplyDeleteI think Abarbanel's view is that "relying on one's self" is not a reference to relying on faith, but to relying on personal judgment and activities.
