Hi,
"Four things were stated regarding bread: We do not place raw meat on bread, we do not pass a full cup over bread, we do not throw bread and we do not support a plate with bread."
(Talmud, Berachot 50b)
Have a great day,
Mordechai

Hi,
ReplyDeleteWe've visited a Sephardi family- minhag to "throw" the challah. Somewhat jokingly, we've taken to doing the same-- when my wife makes Motzi, cuts the challah and "throws" a piece to me. How literally should I understand the Gemarah in Berachos?
Michael
Yes, I know some Sephardim do it, but that gemara is cited as halachah in Shulchan Aruch (by the Mechaber, I might add). I don't know their basis for permitting it.
