Boredom and depression

Hi,

"Inactivity leads to depression."

(Mishnah, Ketuvot 59b)

Have a good day,

  1. One could also argue that “depression leads to inactivity” and it becomes a vicious cycle. Thus, it is good advice to someone suffering from depression to try hard to put those feelings "on a shelf" even if only temporarily, and just do something physical to break the cycle and assist in healing. I am vaguely reminded of a sermon I heard about Na’aseh v’Nishma relating to the importance of sometimes putting aside thoughts, analysis, planning, etc., and just “doing” something physical.
