I have been sending out daily Torah Thought emails since 1997. I created this blog to provide an archive for, and a forum for discussion of, these emails.
All points of view are welcome in this forum, if expressed civilly (as defined by my ear, since this is my blog). However, this is not a place for publicizing personal manifestos; feel free to start your own blog for those.

Marrying Shabbat
Hi,
"Just as a man and woman become married when the Kallah (bride) enters the Chuppah, so Shabbat becomes married to the Jews at its entrance, with Kiddush."
In the summer of 1963, while there was still a Camp Ramah in Middlebury, CT, I was a junior counselor and also instructor in canoeing. Around 1:30 P.M. on Fridays, I would take one of the rabbis and his wife on a canoe ride on the Connecticut River (I think that was the river) and he would take her wedding band off her finger. After doing this for several weeks, I asked about his action. "On Shabbat, I am married to Shabbat."
After Havdalah, he would place the wedding band back on her finger.
